Benjamin Franklin Visits Waukee Elementary 5th Graders

Benjamin Franklin visited the 5th grade classes at Waukee Elementary. Franklin is the mascot for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Money Smart Week  (MSW) program. Iowa participates in MSW, because the purpose is to highlight financial education and to hold events to help consumers better manage their money. The presentation tied in nicely with the  BizTown curriculum the students are currently studying about financial literacy in social studies. To give students a bit of economic and money awareness, Ben Franklin talked about how important it is to learn good money management skills.

Mike Gonzalez from Wells Fargo led the 5th grade students in Jenna Swain’s,  James Madden’s, and Gail Johnson’s class through a virtual hands-on banking program. Students learned about budgeting, savings and checking and credit. These lessons align with the BizTown curriculum about financial literacy in social studies.

The students in Mr. James Madden's fifth grade class pose with Ben Franklin after learning how important it is to learn good money management skills. Ben Franklin's visit aligns with the BizTown curriculum the students are currently studying in social studies.
