Eason Flag Raising
Eason Elementary second graders had an opportunity to observe and participate in a flag-raising ceremony lead by Pack 179 of the Cub Scouts. Here is a write up by one of the den leaders who is also a parent in our classroom. “As Cub Scouts leaders we have the opportunity to teach, learn, and share experiences that convey the purposes of Scouting. The flag ceremony this morning (and the practice session last night) is one of the more important lessons I think we can share with our children. It teaches the importance of character development, citizenship and community service, respect, knowledge, and social skills. At every den and pack meeting, we have a small flag ceremony, but wow, those are nothing like this morning. This morning’s ceremony pulled together many of the different elements that we learn along the development trail in scouting. From the Pledge of Allegiance, the flag’s raising, salutes, promises, flag etiquette and history, to community and school service; this was a moment that all the scouts should be proud of.” Thank you to Wolf Cub Scouts, Pack 179 Den and their leaders!
