2nd Graders Learn to Love the Earth

Students in Mrs. Tara Broich’s second grade class have been busy learning about how humans affect the environment in both positive and negative ways. Several visitors came to the class to help extend the learning.  Mary Gillaspey from Metro West Authority talked with students about the importance of recycling.  Mary shared materials that should be recycled and products made from recycled materials.  To further the learning about our environment, member of the Waukee High School’s Earth Club came to help the children with a hands on activity of making bird feeders using pinecones and sun butter.  This activity helped the students understand another way humans can have a positive impact on our environment.
