Middle Schoolers Perform in 8th Grade Play
Seventy-four eighth graders from both Waukee and South Middle School performed on stage or worked on the crew for the annual play, “Three First Kisses” by Tim Bohn. In the play, three girls discussed their confusing love lives. Then the South Middle School cast wrote their own duet scenes to pair with monologues and short works written by playwright Don Zolodis. The evening’s performance ended with a two-act play, “Scenes from a Dance” by Dick Grunert, that followed the adventures of a lost love letter from place to place at a high school dance. Students worked on developing character, reacting to each other, and learning to face the audience on a thrust stage, as well as developing their technical theater skills.
