Board Workshop Sets Boundary Committee Charge
Rob Schwarz, with RSP & Associates, led the Board in a workshop to set the stage for the recently appointed Boundary Committee at the April 27 board meeting. The outcome of this session set clear guidelines and charge for the boundary committee.
At the workshop the board determined that the realigned boundaries should reflect the provision for better educational opportunities at each school, allowing for an equitable student experience across the district. The board also reviewed the information obtained from the public forum held on April 14 and identified three top priorities for the committee to consider during the Comprehensive Boundary Process:
- Neighborhoods Intact (Defined as RSP planning areas)
- Projected Enrollment and Building Utilization (Balance enrollment with given building capacity constraints)
- Duration of Boundaries (Have them last as long as possible)
The Comprehensive Boundary Process will include one more Board of Education meeting, six committee meetings and one more public forum. The boundary process has a completion date of December 2015. The first committee meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 4 at Waukee District Office, 560 SE University Ave. While these meetings are open to observers, only committee members may participate in the meetings.
