New Waukee High School Principal Cary Justmann

The Waukee Board of Education approved the recommendation to appoint Cary Justmann as the next principal for Waukee High School. Cary will be replacing Kirk Johnson who was appointed as associate superintendent for the district earlier this year. Cary will officially begin his duties as principal on July 1, 2016.

“I feel Waukee is an innovative district with a growth mindset, centered on improvement. I wanted to be part of a team that helps our youngsters reach their goals,” Justmann said. “I’m looking forward to jumping in with both feet and meeting the team and students I’ll be working with.”

Justmann brings with him 21 years of experience in education. He started his career in Iowa as an at-risk program teacher for Washington Community School District. After 12 years in the classroom and earning his Masters of Science (Educational Leadership) from Drake University, Cary transitioned to the administration as the associate principal for Dallas Center-Grimes High School. Since 2012 he has worked as the principal of Dallas Center-Grimes High School.

“I believe that the biggest quality to being a successful high school principal is the belief that all students can and will be successful. Our job is to prepare our students to be productive in their careers and family life,” Justmann said. “My role as the principal is to put people in the right position, support them and then get out of their way to allow great things to happen.”

There are currently about 1,600 students in grades 10-12 and 211 staff members at Waukee High School.
