District’s Graduation Rates Remain Above State Average

As Iowa’s graduation rate reaches a new high, Waukee Community School District (WCSD) remains ahead of the curve. The Iowa Department of Education released the state’s graduation and dropout data on April 11.

According to the information released by the Iowa Department of Education, 99.26 percent of students in Waukee High School’s Class of 2016 graduated within four years. This is a 0.84 percent increase from numbers reported last year. State data shows 91.3 percent of students in Iowa’s Class of 2016 graduated within four years

“I am very proud of the commitment from all administrators and staff to do whatever it takes to support students during their educational experience here in the Waukee Community School District,” said superintendent, Cindi McDonald. “The partnership we have nurtured with students and their families has a significant impact on the graduation rate. This data is a celebration for the entire district!”

This success could have only been achieved with the implementation of 21st-century learning techniques throughout WCSD’s K-12 education system. Starting in elementary schools, students are taught to set goals and become leaders in their communities through programs like Leader in Me.

“As a high school we often get credit for the great things that our kids do, but at Waukee Community School District it is truly a reflection of our system. The relationship between families and schools provide such a strong support network for our kids, they are able to focus on their school work and the activities that fill their days,” said Waukee High School principal, Cary Justmann.
