Silver Cord Program

Mission

The purpose of the Waukee Silver Cord Program is to instill within students the importance of community service, and encourage students to be accountable for investing in their own education and in their community on a regular basis during their school years.

When Can I Begin?

The Silver Cord Program recognizes students for community service during their high school years. All students from the Class of 2017 are eligible to earn silver cord hours between May 1 of the freshman year and April 30 of the senior year. Example: The Class of 2017 can earn hours between May 1, 2015 and April 30, 2017. Students will be recognized at 25, 50, 100 and 150 hours. Students volunteering 150 hours by April 30 of their senior year will have the distinct honor of wearing a silver cord during their graduation ceremony.

All students from the Class of 2018 and beyond are eligible to earn silver cord hours between November 15 of the freshman year and April 30 of the senior year. Example: The Class of 2018 can earn hours between November 15, 2014 and April 30, 2018. Students will be recognized at 25, 50, 100 and 175 hours. Students volunteering 175 hours by April 30 of their senior year will have the distinct honor of wearing a silver cord during their graduation ceremony.
