Technology in the Middle School Classroom

On March 13, parents from the Waukee Community School District engaged in a Community Education Learning Highlight:  Technology in the Middle School Classroom.  Developing an understanding of how instructional technologies are being used to enhance curriculum, was the focus of the session.  Administrators, teachers, and students from the middle schools demonstrated how the tools of today are preparing students for the 21st century workplace. Parents learned about collaboration, communication, and presentation tools, along with library services that support student learning.  Google Docs, the Flipped Classroom, iPad apps, databases for research, Destiny Quest, and others were shared so that parents could connect with their students regarding classroom learning.

Callie Earney and Maddie Bridges, 7th graders at South Middle School, show how they access Destiny Quest from their iPad.

Callie Earney and Maddie Bridges, 7th graders at South Middle School, and South Middle School parent Kris McEvoy learn about the different ways technology is being used in middle school classrooms.
