An Evening Aboard The Titanic
On April 12, Desiree Miller’s first grade class at Maple Grove Elementary hosted An Evening Aboard the Titanic. All parents were invited to attend as first class passengers. Early in the school year, Miller’s students become intrigued by shipwrecks and wanted to learn more about them, especially the Titanic. It was fitting to be learning about the sinking of the Titanic with the 100th anniversary approaching. Throughout the course of the year, students were engaged in several learning activities. They created an iMovie to show to parents the evening of the event. To prepare for the event, students formed committees. Students were responsible for making invitations and boarding passes as well as decorating the classroom. During the event, students greeted parents at the door where they turned in their boarding passes. Then, they had their names checked off the guest list and were escorted to their seats. Groups of students worked together to serve cake and punch. After refreshments, parents were treated to a play followed by the iMovie. Overall, the evening was enjoyed by all and a huge success!
