Second Grade Clay Artists

The second graders at Eason Elementary have been learning the importance of clay to artists, where it comes from, and what it can be used for. Each young artist chose a leaf to make a natural shape imprint into clay, then formed it into a functional bowl. After the clay was fired, the artists chose from an array of glaze colors to decorate their bowl. The bowl was fired again to turn the glaze into a brilliantly colored hard coating. Mrs. Melinda Turnbull, art teacher, walked them through this process, from selecting their leaves from the Eason grounds, to firing and glazing their projects.

Luke Morton and James Marsh work on their clay projects.

Mari Mineck works on her project.
