Students Participate in Unity Day
South Middle School students participated in Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center “Unity Day” on October 10. The key message given to all students was “UNITY”. Students were asked to show their support for others who have and are being bullied by wearing ORANGE on October 10. ORANGE wristbands with the words “UNITY” were given to all students and staff in the building that day. Earlier in the week students watched a short presentation on Unity Day and were asked to sign an ORANGE UNITY banner that will hang in the school, declaring their dedication to end bullying.
Other information that was presented to students during the week included:
- What is Bullying?
- Types of Bullying
- How to Intervene
- How and Who to Report To
- Instructions on accessing the District Bullying Website
- Completion of their Safe Person Contract
The Safe Person Contract is for anytime a student feels unsafe (not just for bullying situations) and needs an adult to talk to. We have asked each student in our building to identify an adult that works at South Middle School as his or her safe person.
