This fall, Brookview fourth and fifth grade students took part in the Bullying Academy’s “Taking a Stand Against Bullying” educational program and contest. Both grade levels took top honors and won the contest. The Bullying Academy is a program designed to help students recognize dangers associated with bullying and cyberbullying. The program addresses topics such as how to identify a bullying situation, how to react and prevent such behavior, and what consequences are involved. The students took web-based quizzes and reviewed specific web sites and videos. These resources are aimed at demonstrating that bullying, whether physical, verbal, or electronic, can be as harmful for those that bully as it is for those who are targeted.
Heartland AEA 11 will be at Brookview on January 23-25 to conduct its annual Hearing Conservation Program for students in grades K-5. Students who do not pass this screening may receive individual hearing tests by the audiologist at a later date. Parents will be notified about the results of the hearing tests only if their child does not pass the test. This is a screening process only, and does not identify all hearing or ear problems.
Brookview parent, student, teacher conferences will take place March 2 – 8. All teachers will hold conferences from 2:00-4:00 on Wednesday, March 6 and from 4:00-8:00 on Thursday, March 7. Each teacher will also schedule four additional hours outside of the school day during the week for conferences to occur. The online schedule window will be open February 11 – February 28 for parents to sign up.
Please make sure your students have appropriate winter clothing at school each day. Students go outside for recess everyday unless the wind chill is below 0 degrees. Students are not allowed to stay indoors for recess without a medical excuse. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Hats and gloves are especially important throughout the winter months. Boots and snowpants are needed when there is snow on the ground. Students are required to stay on the blacktop unless they are wearing boots and snowpants on snowy days. Also, please label all of your child’s winter clothing.
