Waukee Boys’ Golf Open Season with a Big Win
On August 19, the Waukee Boys’ Golf team opened the season with big wins from the Linn Mar Invitational at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa. Waukee won the tournament with a team score of 299 and sophomore Tripp Kinney won individual medalist honors. The fourteen team field consisted of teams from central Iowa and eastern Iowa. The site, Hunters Ridge golf course is the site of this year’s Class 4A state tournament.
“This was a chance for a lot of good teams to see how they stack up against teams from eastern and central Iowa early in the season,” John Kotz, Waukee Boys’ Head Coach said. “We wanted an opportunity to play this year’s state tournament course in a tournament environment and see how it goes. Overall, I was pleased with our effort. We can clean some things up, but to break 300 on this course in the first tournament of the season is a great effort by our players.”
Waukee’s team scoring was led by sophomore Tripp Kinney who carded a (-1)71. Junior Aaron Denucci tied for third individually with a (+1)73. Junior Parker Howe battled to a 76. Junior Connor Littlefield rounded out the warrior scoring with a 79.
Second place went to Cedar Rapids Kennedy with a team score of 303. West Des Moines Valley was third with a 305. West Des Moines Dowling placed fourth at 308. Johnston took fifth with a 312.
Waukee will see action again next Monday, Aug. 26, when they travel to Jester Park GC. to take on the Johnston Dragons in a dual match.
