FCCLA Members Bring Home Medals from Nationals!
Four Waukee High School students attended the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN July 7-11.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12.
Lexi Ridout, senior, attended and represented Iowa and Waukee, serving in her role as a State Officer, First Vice President. She helped in planning and leading our State meetings for Iowa members who were present. She also attended several different leadership classes and workshops to help her in learning her role as a State Officer for this upcoming year where her main focus is on STAR Events and helping lead, organize and plan for next year at the State Leadership Conference.
Waukee High School advanced three students to compete in STAR Events. Two other students were eligible to compete, but were unable to attend the conference.
Kelsey McDonald, 2013 graduate, brought home a bronze medal in her STAR Event category, “Leadership.” She focused on mentoring a friend on college choices and decisions.
Sophomores Emma Graen and Kate Closson brought home the chapter’s first gold medal from Nationals in their STAR Event category, “Chapter Service Project Display, Jr.” They focused on making fleece blankets to donate to local hospitals for children. This went along with our Statewide project this year – March of Dimes.
Iowa all together brought home 27 gold, 31 silver, and two bronze!
“I am very proud of these four girls for all of their accomplishments and representing Waukee and Iowa so well. These girls are true examples of what leadership looks like!” Jennifer Callahan, FCCLA Sponsor said.
Thank you for your help in the fundraising efforts throughout the year that helped get our students to Nashville, giving them the opportunity to compete.
