53 Waukee High School Students Earn AP Scholar Awards
The 2013 College Board State AP Scholar Roster is full of Waukee High School (WHS) students who earned an AP Scholar Award based on their outstanding performance on the 2013 Advanced Placement® Exams. The College Board’s AP Program provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit.
Thirty-one Waukee High School students earned the AP Scholar Award, five earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award, 17 earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award and four earned the National AP Scholar Award.

AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams
AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams
National AP Scholar: Granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams
About our AP Program
The Waukee High School Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers 14 onsite courses that seek to inspire high-levels of learning. The number of WHS students that have experienced our AP Program has grown exponentially over recent years. Even with that growth, our achievement levels remain high.
- 76.2% of WHS students who took AP exams in 2013 scored a (3) or higher on the exam.
- 231 WHS students took 445 AP exams in 2013.
- 231 is an increase by 66 students over 2012
- 445 is an increase by 150 students over 2012
“I attribute our high achievement levels to our dedicated AP teachers and committed students. We are utilizing additional data sources to identify all students who should be enrolled in an AP course and therefore expose more Waukee High School students to more learning opportunities. WHS administration and teachers are also committed to mindful growth of our AP program,” Kirk Johnson, Waukee High School Principal, said.
