South Middle School Fitness
Students at South Middle School in Waukee participate in skill and health related fitness stations.
Students do fitness stations for 12 minutes in Physical Education class to help improve their skills and overall health. Each day the students will alternate between jogging for one minute and then doing a station for one minute. They will continue on until the 12-minute time-frame is up.
Students will work on their skill components for 2 weeks and then switch to their health related components the next 2 weeks. Skill components are the following: agility, balance, coordination, reaction time and speed. The health related components are the following: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
Students are tested once a quarter in fitness testing to see their progress. Each student will write a goal and reflect on that goal is they passed it or not. They will monitor their activities and look for ways to improve not only their skill area but their overall health too.
