South Middle School Students Bake Cookies for TRIAD
South Middle School students recently worked together to give back to a local TRIAD group. TRIAD was started in the city of Waukee approximately ten years ago by the Waukee Police Department. A designated officer meets once a month with 50-60 senior citizens from the community to help keep them aware of what is going on in Waukee.
South Middle School (SMS) principal Chris Bergman approached school resources officer (SRO) Mackenzie Sposeto with the idea to incorporate students into the TRIAD meetings. Family Consumer Science classes worked together to bake cookies for the group.
“We had to work together with other classes to bake to the cookies. One class made the dough while the other baked them,” Maddi Gibson said. “We were able to make several dozen cookies.”
South Middle School Tech Advisory students created a video to be shared with the group of choir classes as they prepared for an upcoming concert.
TRIAD seniors enjoyed the students’ baking, as well as watching their performance. Reaching out to the community to share our learning is a goal for South Middle School. Throughout the year watch for glimpses of various SMS learning experiences that will be shared.
