Waukee High School Makes 2013 National AP Honor Roll

For the second consecutive year Waukee Community School District (WCSD) is one five districts in the state of Iowa being honored by The College Board with placement on the 4th Annual AP® District Honor Roll. The AP District Honor Roll recognizes efforts to open AP classroom doors to a significantly broader pool of students while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.

Other Iowa Iowa districts being honored with the award are Cedar Falls, College, Pleasant Valley and West Des Moines Community School District. A total of 477 school districts in the United States and Canada made the 2013 AP® District Honor Roll. The complete 4th Annual AP® District Honor Roll can be found here.

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program of college-level courses and exams giving motivated students the opportunity to earn credit for college while still in high school.  AP courses are developed by committees composed of college faculty and high school teachers.  Each AP labeled course has been approved by The College Board through an extensive review process.  These courses cover the breadth of information, skills, and assignments in corresponding collegiate courses.  Most AP courses at Waukee High School (WHS) are a full semester and provide a more intense and rigorous academic experience.

Inclusion on the 4th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on the examination of three years of AP data, from 2011 to 2013, for the following criteria:

  • Increase participation/access to AP by at least 4 percent in large districts, at least 6 percent in medium districts and at least 11 percent in small districts.

  • Performance levels must be maintained or improved when comparing the percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher in 2013 to 2011.
