Community Education Update
Waukee = Growth! As many school district staff, parents, and students will tell you, Waukee Schools are continually growing and changing. The growth process has its challenges, but is also exciting and rewarding. The growth affects every school district department and certainly trickles down to the Community Education department as well.
This past August, we opened our fourth Beyond the Bell location at our newest school building, Woodland Hills Elementary. Beyond the Bell is our before and after school care program. We now serve over 540 students in our entire Beyond the Bell program. We have dedicated staff members that spend valuable time with our students before and after the school day.
In the fall of 2015, we will be opening a second Wee Warriors location at the new Timberline School. Wee Warriors is our district staff preschool care program. The Timberline School location will be very similar to our current Wee Warriors set-up at Prairieview School. We will be able to serve 25 additional children. This is a valuable benefit to our district staff members and their families!
Another milestone in the fall of 2015 will be the introduction of intramural activities for our Waukee High School students. Waukee intramurals will be coordinated through the Community Education department. They are the result of our board of education recognizing and fulfilling a need for additional extra-curricular opportunities for our growing student body. WHS students will have a chance to help form what these opportunities will look like!
As always, please feel free to contact me. I welcome your feedback on how we can continue to grow Waukee Community Education and better serve our parents, students, and community members. We are Waukee!
