Waukee Boys Track Captures 4A Title, Girls Another Top 10 finish
The Waukee Boys Track Team won their first state team title ever, beating defending champion Linn Mar by 12 points. The victory capped an undefeated season in which the boys won all eight invitational meets including Central Iowa Conference and state qualifying meet championships.
It was a total team effort as the boys placed in 15 of the 18 events, the most by one team in state meet history. The Warriors won three relays including the Shuttle Hurdle relay team of Jared Brdicko, Kalen Renshaw, Scott Stanley and Josh Brdicko, which set all time Iowa record of 55.78. School record performances on Friday by the 4×200 relay team of Nihad Eujbovic, Trevor Allen, AJ Allen and Corbin Lowe, as well as, Ross Reynolds in the shot put left Waukee and Linn Mar tied going into the final day of competition. Waukee scored 38 points on the final day and clinched the state title when the same sprint foursome won the 4×100 relay.
The Waukee Girls track team enjoyed another successful season. They were also undefeated during the regular season, including conference and state qualifying meet titles. The girls placed in 10 events en route to a seventh place finish at the state meet. Sophomore Talia Buss medaled in 4 events and junior Erika Lewis medaled in three events to lead the Warriors. It was the girls eighth “top 10” finish at the state meet since 2005.
