Waukee Enrollment Update

Dr. Dave Wilkerson, superintendent of schools, provided the Board with an overview of the district’s enrollment as it currently stands, along with the district-generated projections for future enrollment at the September 22 meeting.  These projection are based off historical data.

The numbers provided represented served students (those actually in our buildings/classrooms), not certified enrollment. 2014-15 certified enrollment numbers are due the state on October 15, with results being released from the Iowa Department of Education in July of 2015. The districts certified enrollment number typically run around 150 students more than served, as we have more students open enrolling OUT of the district than we have students open enrolling IN.

The Iowa Department of Education certified enrollment projections from January 2014 were provided.  These projections use a statistical model generated through the statistics department at the University of Iowa and use live births in the county five years previous as the basis for kindergarten projections. RSP and Associates will provide their enrollment projections for the district in aggregate and by individual buildings, in either January or February of 2015 using their proprietary statistical forecasting model.
