Celebration in Brass Returns on July 2, 2015
Celebration in Brass will return to central Iowa on Thursday, July 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Waukee High School Stadium. The premier drum and bugle corps competition event is expected to draw more than 3,000 spectators, showcasing eight corps from across the country with approximately 1,000 young performers and support staff. The Waukee Band Boosters and the Colts Youth Organization serve as the organizers.
“The show is a real highlight on the summer entertainment calendar,” Jon Rech, Event Chair for the Waukee High Band Boosters, said. “It brings people together from all over the state and from all parts of the country. We are thrilled to bring a show of this caliber to our community and it is equally important as a fundraiser to meet the needs of our growing band program.”
This event not only attracts some of the best drum and bugle corps, but also is a great fundraising opportunity for the Waukee Band Program. Band Boosters receive 100% of the profits from the concession stand and program advertisements. The money collected by the Band Boosters is used to help offset the costs related to instruments, costumes and other programing needs.
Celebration in Brass event ticket start at $15 and may be purchased at the Waukee Hy-Vee located at 1005 E. Hickman Road, Waukee or at Chocolaterie Stam’s Valley West Mall or Ingersoll locations. Tickets may be purchased for Celebration in Brass online at www.colts.org or by calling 563-582-4872.
About Celebration in Brass
Celebration in Brass is one of more than 100 events as part of the annual Drum Corps International (DCI) “Marching Music’s Major League” tour throughout the United States each summer. Each year, more than 8,000 students audition for the fewer than 3,500 positions in the top tier Drum Corps International (www.DCI.org) members’ corps. These young performers, 18-21 years of age – 72% college students and many are music majors — pay for the opportunity to travel the country all summer long to perfect a 12-minute program of precision marching, with drum lines, bugles and color guards. Each individual corps travel the United States with three or four tour motor coaches with multiple support vehicles carrying their equipment and mobile kitchens.
Corps competing this year at Waukee’s Celebration in Brass include: The Cavaliers, Rosemont, IL; Santa Clara Vanguard, Santa Clara, CA; Spirit of Atlanta, Atlanta, GA; Racine Scouts, Racine, WI; Legends, Kalamazoo, Mi; Blue Stars, LaCrosse, WI; The Colts and the Colt Cadets, from Dubuque, IA. Five of these corps ranked in the top 15 in the world last year, and the Cavaliers and the Santa Clara Vanguard have won the Drum Corps International World Championship final in previous years.
