Police Departments to Provide Helping Hands for Back to School
The West Des Moines, Clive and Waukee Police Departments will spend the first three days of school visiting all elementary school buildings in the Waukee Community School District. This presence is part of an initiative called Helping Hands.
Through the Helping Hands program, two officers are stationed at each building during drop-off and pick-up times. The officers will interact with students, parents and staff, and ensure the school year gets off to a safe start. This is also a strategic measure to build trust and confidence with the young students, so they are comfortable going to the police officers should they ever be in danger or need assistance.
