Waukee Girls Capture School’s 3rd State Softball Title
Waukee won the 2015 Class 5A state championship at Harlan Rogers Park in Fort Dodge. The Warriors opened the state tournament with 1-0 win over Urbandale. Following an exciting 4-3 extra inning victory over WDM Valley in the semi finals, the girls defeated #2 Johnston 6-4 in the finals to bring home the school’s 3rd state championship trophy in softball, and first as a 5A school. Waukee also won back to back Class 2A state titles in 1999 and 2000. Current head coach Carrie Embree was a member of both of those teams.
Waukee won 34 of their last 38 games and finished the season with a record of 36-8. The team got off to fast starts in all three tournament games including a 6-0 lead after two innings in the championship game. Timely hitting, solid fielding and strong pitching were keys in the Warriors championship run. Senior Taylor Hulsing and sophomore Morgan Nealey were selected to the All Tournament team along with sophomore pitcher Sarah Schaefer, who was voted captain of the all tournament team.
