A Note From Principal Tierney
What an amazing first week and a half it has been! Your kids are amazing and I am so glad I get to see them every day! Our teachers and staff also need to be commended, as they have worked hard these past several days to build a culture within their classrooms where every child feels safe and valued; a perfect platform for each child to now learn at their maximum potential. We caught some pictures the first couple days of school, and those were highlighted in our back to school slide show, which was shown to your children at today’s assembly. We are hoping to RISE, by lifting OTHERS this school year; and there is no doubt in my mind that each of your children will do just that. They have “lifted” me, already! J
Safety is NUMBER ONE!
Safety is our number one priority. We realize it takes seconds for an accident to happen, therefore, we ask all families to follow our parent pick-up procedures very carefully. The following are a few expectations that need review:
- Students must wait in the yellow box, that is painted on the sidewalk. They will not be allowed to get into a car, until the car is within the yellow zone.
- Pull all the way forward so that we can maximize the number of cars that we are able to get in the pick-up zone.
- Children must get out of the passenger side of the car. We ask that students not get out of the driver’s side and walk around, and we also ask that parents not stop the car and walk their child around. If you must park and get out of your car, please use the parking lot, so that we can keep traffic moving along.
Thank you in advance for helping us to ensure our students’ safety!
MILES FOR MAPLE GROVE: We will kick off our annual fun run, Miles for Maple Grove on Friday, September 1st. Students will bring home fundraising packets. We ask that students bring the packets and donations collected back to school on the three Wednesdays leading up to the event: September 6 th, 13 th, and 20th. The final day to turn in donations to be eligible for prizes is September 20th. Miles for Maple Grove will take place on Friday, September 29th. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and all students participate. Last year we raised over $30,000! A volunteer sign up form will be sent out closer to the event. We are currently looking for businesses to sponsor our run. With a donation of $200 or more, the business logo will be printed on the back of our shirts that the students wear throughout the year. With a donation of $100, the business name will be listed. If you or someone you know would like to be a sponsor, please let us know: email@example.com.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION: Help our school earn cash by clipping Box Tops from products and sending them to school! Keep your eye out for the pink and purple label on hundreds of products (product list here: BTFE.com/products). Next week we will be sending home sheets that can be filled with 25 Box Tops and turned in for a prize. There is also a mailbox on the PTO board outside the gym where they can be dropped off. It’s very helpful to make sure they are not expired. Thank you!
REMIND ME APP: Stay up-to date with the happenings of the Maple Grove PTO by signing up for notifications through the Remind App, an app that is already used by many of our wonderful teachers here at MGE!
