Eason Flier 11/17/17

2017-2018 GIVING TREE

Starting on November 11, Eason will begin its annual Giving Tree to offer support to deserving families in our community. Paper ornaments are hung on a tree by the office. Written on the ornaments are items that Eason families would either enjoy or are in need of this holiday season.  Parents and staff are encouraged to take an ornament with a specific gift listed that you are willing to purchase for that family. After the gift is purchased, place the gift-wrapped present under the tree with the ornament attached. The Giving Tree will end on December 15.  Thank you for helping us make the holidays a little brighter for our families.

If school is closed early due to inclement weather, and if your child rides a bus, he/she will be delivered to the place you indicated when you registered this fall.  Please be sure the school has accurate and up-to-date information on file regarding any alternate sites or arrangements for weather-or emergency-related early dismissals, as well as your current phone numbers.  Eason’s Live Y’ers childcare program opens early when school is dismissed early for students who are signed up for that service.  Each school’s onsite childcare program can be designated as the weather- or emergency-related early dismissal site for unscheduled early dismissal days.

On days that the school dismisses due to an emergency or inclement weather, school offices will be staffed and phones answered until all buses have radioed in that they have delivered all students.

Be sure to check our lost and found in the hallway by the Eason gymnasium.  We have accumulated a large variety of items that need to find their rightful owner!

It’s cold & flu season again!  Here are some general guidelines to adhere to when your child is sick:

*Keep your child home for at least 24 hours when he or she is sick. This means your child must be fever-free and not vomiting or having diarrhea for 24 hours before coming back to class.

*Take children into the doctor as soon as possible if they are showing flu-like signs or symptoms. Please visit the website below for information regarding the upcoming flu-season:

The stomach bug has been making its round at Eason Elementary so be on the lookout. Viral illnesses are caused by norovirus and rotavirus. Norovirus is the most common cause of the stomach bug and often causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. You can decrease your chance of getting the stomach bug by doing the following:

Washing your hands with soap and water frequently

Following the correct procedure for cleanup (wipe up and sanitize). Remember that when your child throws up, tiny particles can spread widely and land on surfaces up to 25 feet away.  Stomach illness can spread quickly in a school environment so please take precautions and be aware of your child’s symptoms!

Thanks to everyone who donated to our Winter Warmth Drive!  The project collected over 9,800 items to distribute to those in need this fall.  These items were provided to 38 schools and agencies around the Des Moines area.  Your generosity and help are greatly appreciated.

The Vocal Music Boosters board regularly meets in Waukee High School room 122 (carpeted vocal music room) the second Tuesday of every month to support, promote, and encourage vocal music programs across all buildings in the Waukee School District. Parents of any vocal student are invited and encouraged to attend. To confirm the date of the next meeting or to ask any questions, email board co-presidents Jerry and Jill Waage at wvmb.president@gmail.com.
