Maple Grove Branch
A Message From Principal Tierney
Happy New Year!
2017 was a great year at Maple Grove Elementary and we are looking forward to an even better 2018! So far, 2018 has been a cold one, so I want to take a moment to remind you of our elementary handbook policy for recess. On page 15 of our published and board approved handbook, it states:
“Winter recess requires such clothing items as heavy coats, boots, snow pants, mittens and hats. Without such clothing, a recess period or lunch break spent outside can be a time of real discomfort for your child. Boots, in particular, are needed on snowy or wet days. If your child does not wear boots, he/she will be restricted to a small area of the sidewalk that is free of snow or puddles. We go outside for recess two or three times daily when the wind chill is zero degrees or above.”
We want all of our children to be safe, therefore proper winter attire is a necessity. If students are missing appropriate clothing, we often have extra clothing (snowpants, gloves and hats) available to borrow in the nurse’s office. The following visual has been included in previous newsletters, but provides a general rule of thumb for how to appropriately dress your child for our chilly Iowa days. If you’d like to access our handbook, it may be found within the Waukee Community School District Website: http://bit.ly/2m5s4DV
Regardless of the weather, I am so thankful to be serving your children and look forward to an immense amount of learning and leading alongside each one of your children in 2018.
Mrs. Kim Tierney

Last year the raffle was bigger than ever, and to continue this trend, we need your help! Possible donation items are gift cards, toys, décor, heath items, electronics, tickets to events, etc. Monetary donations that can be used to purchase larger items are welcome as well.
