District Prepares to Launch New Silver Cord Website
On Tuesday, October 23, the Waukee Community School District (WCSD) Silver Cord Program will launch a new custom website to improve how students in grades 9-12 submit, approve and track volunteer hours.
The website is a significant investment in the long-term viability of the Silver Cord Program. The website allows WCSD staff to manage over 900 students currently in the program and the thousands of volunteer hours submitted and approved each year.
“Throughout the project, the main goal was to create a system that was easy and efficient for students to submit their hours and our volunteer organizations to approve hours,” said Jeff Longman, Director of Community Education. “We also wanted to ensure that our staff had the ability to manage the program as a whole and help students on an individual basis.”
On October 23, students in grades 10-12 will be sent information to their @waukeeschools.org student email account with the website link and directions to navigate the new software. All student volunteer hours that are currently in PowerSchool and NobleHour will be transferred into the new website.
“We anticipate the new website will make volunteering more enjoyable and easier to monitor. We ultimately hope it encourages even more students to participate in the Silver Cord Program and earn their silver cords at graduation.” Longman said.
