Northwest Girls Win Back to Back State Titles

The Northwest Girls Track and Field team defended their 2022 State title with an impressive three day total team effort last weekend at Drake Stadium. The team placed in 13 of the 19 events including top 5 finishes in all 7 relays. Northwest scored 74 team points to defeat runner up Ames (69) and Dowling Catholic (62).

Relays and field events were the recipe for success. The Wolves won the 4x200m relay clocking the eighth fastest time in state history. Runner-up relay finishes in the 4×100, 4×400 and Sprint Medley and a 3rd place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay all produced times ranked in the top 20 on the all-time state performance list. Field events also provided valuable points as Northwest placed two girls in the Shot Put, Discus and Long Jump.

In all, an impressive 18 different girls won state medals and 9 girls received Elite All State recognition for their performances.
