Students will become flexible thinkers and complex problem solvers by applying essential mathematical ideas and concepts through a rigorous, focused, and relevant curriculum.
In the summer of 2009, the Iowa Core was written into law for the subjects of Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, and 21st Century Skills. It is expected of all Iowa school to implement the Iowa Core in all grade levels by the year 2014.
The Math committee worked hard to align the Iowa Core Essential Concepts and Skills Sets in K-12 to create a new Standards, Benchmarks, and Objectives document. This involved a complete overhaul of the current Standards, Benchmarks, and Objectives to better to meet the requirements of the Iowa Core.
In the 2011-12 school year, the math committee selected curriculum materials to assist with teaching the concepts in the new Standards, Benchmarks, and Objectives (SBOs).
The K-12 SBOs were approved by the school board in May 2012, with full implementation in 2012-13.
