Health Updates for Waukee CSD

New CDC Quarantine Recommendations

Waukee CSD will follow the New CDC Recommendations, supported by the Iowa Department of Public Health and Dallas County Public Health, as it relates to updated quarantine recommendations. The most recent changes include:

  • On day 10 without testing and symptom free and fever free
  • On day 7 after receiving a negative test result (test must occur on day 5 or later)
    • Written result of the negative test must be supplied to the building nurse.
    • Individual must be symptom-free and fever-free.

Local public health authorities make the final decisions about how long quarantine should last, based on local conditions and needs. Follow the recommendations of local public health department if you need to quarantine.

Masks with exhalation valves or vents

No Valve Mask

CDC does not recommend using masks with exhalation valves or vents because this type of mask may not prevent you from spreading COVID-19 to others. The hole in the material may allow your respiratory droplets to escape and reach others. Research on the effectiveness of these types of masks is ongoing. At this time masks with valves will be prohibited in Waukee CSD buildings.

Staff/Student Monitoring

Beginning Monday, December 14, should a student or staff member be exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19, who was within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes WITH BOTH parties wearing masks, those individuals will receive a monitoring email from the school/building nurse notifying them of the next steps. Those who will be monitored by our school nurses will continue to be assessed for symptoms and temperature checks taken upon arrival at school. This is a change from a phone call our nurses and building administrators were making prior.

The email subject will be: Important Health Information from Your Building Nurse

Weekly Positive Case Notifications

Also beginning Monday, December 14, each building will be sending an email on Friday with the total number of positive cases within the building for the week. The community dashboard will continue to be updated daily with positive cases.

Transition to Fully Online through Iowa Dept. of Education Waiver

In the future, should a classroom, building, or entire district find the need to transition to temporary online learning, the district will seek the full two-week waiver as it has in the past. However, should the data and information change and the full two weeks do not warrant the current environment, the waiver could be extended or reduced.

Health Reminders

Please stay home when you are sick, have a pending test, or someone in your household is sick or pending a test result. If you have a positive test result, please reach out to Human Resources.

Updated Matrix Discussion

On Monday, December 14, at our regularly scheduled Board meeting, an updated Matrix will be discussed and voted on by the Board of Education. The current matrix was created this past summer and as we have experienced almost a full semester, data has evolved. As information has evolved, we feel our matrix should do the same.
