When Can I Begin?

The Silver Cord Program recognizes students for community service during their high school years.

All students are eligible to earn silver cord hours between November 15 of the freshman year and April 30 of the senior year. Example: The Class of 2018 can earn hours between November 15, 2014 and April 30, 2018. Students will be recognized at 25, 50, 100 and 175 hours. Students volunteering 175 hours by April 30 of their senior year will have the distinct honor of wearing a silver cord during their graduation ceremony.

Travel, sleep, and meal breaks should not be included as service hours – 8 service hours max per day. Students may choose to earn up to half of their total silver cord hours volunteering for a WCSD organization.
