May Construction Update
Woodland Hills Elementary School – 1120 S 95th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50266-9020
- Painting is on-going throughout the building. Locker installation is mostly complete. VCT, casework and whiteboard installation is underway in classrooms. MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) finishes are ongoing.
Vince Meyer Learning Center (1917 Facility) –430 Ashworth Drive, Waukee, IA 50263
The Board approved the schematic design and improvements to the 1917 facility, now named Vince Meyer Learning Center, at the September 10 Board of Education meeting. These improvements include new windows (respecting the architectural integrity of the existing building), an elevator, new lockers, and some minor HVAC adjustments. Fifth graders from Waukee Elementary will attend the Vince Meyer Learning Center in fall of 2013.
- Masonry work for elevator shaft is complete. Window replacement to begin mid-May. Weather permitting exterior will begin mid-May as well. At the May 13 Board of Education meeting, the recommendation that the Vince Meyer Learning Center Change Order #2 for the additional amount of $22,278.00 was approved.
Timberline Schematic Design
The design process for school buildings consists of three (3) stages of development. (1) Schematic Design (2) Design Development and (3) Construction Documents. We have been working with our architect firm, Frevert Ramsey Kobes (FRK), over the past several months on the schematic design for Timberline School, the new 8/9 grade facility scheduled to bid this spring and open for the 2015/16 school year. Representatives with FRK presented the schematic design to the Board and answered questions Board members had. Once approved, FRK will begin work on the “detail” of these schematics in the design development phase. We tentatively have design development scheduled to come back to the board for approval at the November 26 school board meeting. The estimated cost for this project is approximately $25 million and would be paid for using SILO funds. Firmer cost estimates will be provided as we continue to move through the planning phase. The work is slated for a July 2015 completion date.
- Site Plan and Final Plat have been approved by the City. Bid date has been set for June 11 at 2:00. The Board of Education will be asked to approve successful bidder at the June 24 meeting. Coordination continues with VSA on the soccer fields.
