Information Literacy

Philosophy Statement

Waukee students will become ethical and responsible lifelong learners who locate, evaluate, and utilize information to fuel the creative process.

History

Waukee informational literacy teams are comprised of technology integrationists, computer teachers and teacher librarians. They are instructional partners who collaborate to supplement and enhance instruction by integrating literacy and technology skills across the curriculum.

In the summer of 2009, the Iowa Core was written into law for the subjects of Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, and 21st Century Skills. It is expected of all Iowa schools to implement the Iowa Core in all grade levels by the year 2014.

The Information Literacy committee has aligned the 21st Century portion of the Iowa Core Essential Concepts and Skills Sets in K-12 to create a new Standards, Benchmarks, and Objectives. This involved a complete overhaul of the current Standards, Benchmarks, and Objectives to better to meet the requirements of the Iowa Core.

The new SBO document was approved by the Board in May 2013.
