Class 4A District Tournament
The Waukee boys’ golf team won the Class 4A District Tournament held at Fort Dodge Country Club on Oct. 2. Waukee, Dowling Catholic, and Ames qualified to move on to the state tournament. Waukee fired a team score of 293 to distance themselves from the next closest team, Dowling Catholic, with a 305. Ames scored 309 in district play. The warriors were led by Senior Grant Campbell who fired a (-3)68. Senior Jacob McKinney added a (-1)70. Senior Mike Woofter carded a 76, while sophomore Connor Littlefield rounded out the team score with a 79.
Coach John Kotz stated, “Conditions were perfect for scoring. I don’t think I have ever been in Fort Dodge, on a golf course, without the wind blowing at least 10-20 mph. This was a rare occasion. There was very little wind to speak of today. Usually, districts in Fort Dodge includes wind and rain or sleet. The players were glad they didn’t have to deal with the weather conditions for once.” Coach Kotz went on to mention, “We put up a great score today. This is the lowest team score we have ever posted at Fort Dodge Country Club. We fired a 295 at the Fort Dodge Invitational earlier in the season, but we didn’t have anyone under par. It was great to see two of our seniors have a good day. This is a great way to go into the state tournament.”
Waukee was the 2010 4A State Champion and the 2011 4A State Runner-up.
