Help Waukee Basketball Pink-Out Feb. 1
Waukee families and community members are invited to help the basketball program “Pink-Out” the home games on Feb. 1. Families and community members can help by purchasing and wearing special Waukee “Pink-Out” t-shirts. Apparel can be purchased online in RevTrak here.
Proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This is an annual event to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. The event was started about eight years ago after Head Girls Basketball Coach Chris Guess’ sister was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer at age 29.
“I wanted to do something that supported her. After that, it seemed like there was always someone connected to the basketball program that was affected by breast cancer,” Guess said. “Last year we raised $1,000. We are hoping to double that this year.“
The “Pink-Out” will be for the entire night. The Varsity Girls Basketball Team will wear pink uniforms while other teams will have their own special way of showing their support for the cause.
The last day to order your 2012-13 Waukee “Pink-Out” shirt is Jan. 22. Community members may pick up ordered shirts in the Waukee High School Activity Office, 555 Southeast University Ave., Waukee, Iowa 50263. Ordered placed by Waukee parents will be delivered to their child’s school. Orders for apparel can also be placed at the basketball home games on Jan. 18 and 22. To download order form click here.
Feb. 1 is also senior night for the varsity girls and elementary night for Eason and Maple Grove.
