Nutrition Notification Change for Grades K-7
Starting Monday, Oct. 7 Waukee Community School District will be using the notification system School Messenger to send negative balance notifications to parents. This will allow the district to not only make this process more efficient, but by going “Green” the district will save money that can be better used in other areas.
The district will no longer be sending home paper reminders for low and negative balances. Instead, parents will receive a phone call to the primary phone number that is listed in PowerSchool and an email. Only one phone number will be called around 12 p.m.
This change will only affect elementary through grade seven students. The current policies and procedures in place do not allow students grades 8-12 to charge or acquire negative balances; therefore, those students will not receive a notification.
You have the option to send cash or check made payable to Waukee Nutrition Department to the school or pay online at http://waukee.revtrak.net. If you have any questions please contact your school secretary, lunch clerk, or the Nutrition Department at 987-2719.
The phone message will say:

Because your child is important to us, we want to continue providing meals. Please send additional money as soon as possible. If you have any questions, call our department at 9 8 7 2 7 1 9. Negative Balance Policy (Board Policy 701.5)
In grades K-7th after three lunches are charged, a letter will be sent home with the student, and the lunch clerk of that building will attempt to contact the parent/guardian stating that their child needs to bring a sack lunch from home until the child’s account is paid up. If the child does not bring money or a sack lunch the next day, the Nutrition Service Department will provide a cheese sandwich and milk. Payment for these lunches will be charged to the student’s account
In grades K-7th after three breakfasts are charged, a letter will be sent home with the student letting the parent/guardian know that their child needs to eat a breakfast at home until their charges are paid up. If the child’s account is in arrears, only milk or juice will be provided and the account charged accordingly.
Free and reduced priced meals are available to those families who qualify. If you would like apply for free or reduced price meals, you can go to the school website at:
