South Middle Leadership Programs Off to a Busy Start
At South Middle School (SMS), we are lucky to have a large number of seventh and eighth grade students involved in our 2013-2014 student leadership programs. Let’s take a look at what these students have been up to thus far in the school year.
The SMS Ambassadors had an earlier start to the school year than most. Our Ambassadors came in on two different occasions to welcome and greet students for the 2013-14 school year. First Ambassadors worked to greet and welcome all new students during our Open House on August 12. Ambassadors provided tours to new students, helped with lockers and answered questions about schedules and classroom locations. Then the next day, our Ambassadors were there again to help host an additional open house for all incoming sixth graders. These student leaders were there to help put our new sixth graders at ease with entering Middle School. Up next, this group is eager to continue to support our new students, prepare for homecoming festivities, and work with our sixth grade advisories.
South Middle Schools PBIS Ambassadors are off to a busy start! The students kick started the year with a quick introduction video to allow their peers to see just who they are and what they are all about. Along with this, PBIS Ambassadors helped to create a video to model correct uses of headphones in the hallways and classroom. Our PBIS Ambassadors are currently planning organization lessons, so they can plug into classrooms and work with their peers on the best ways to stay organized. This great group is eager to be leaders in the school and take part in all the great responsibilities that come with being a PBIS Ambassador.
The newest leaders to our leadership program are the seventh and eighth grade Advisory Captains. Advisory Captains can be found in each and every seventh and eighth grade advisory supporting their advisory and the PBIS goals set forth for our building. We are so excited to have these student leaders leading their advisories each and every day. Advisory Captains have monthly meetings where they discuss possible activities and ways to lead their advisory. For example, this month Advisory Captains led their advisories in a getting to know you activity and a team building advisory activity.
We look forward to seeing our student leaders develop over the course of the year through their school involvement.
