District Receives Multiple Awards for Financial Reporting
The Waukee Community School District (WCSD) prides itself on maintaining open accounting and transparency with management of public funds. The district recently received multiple awards for their financial reporting.
Waukee Community School District received the Association of School Business Officials International’s (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award for having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending 2013.
The district also received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its CAFR. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
In an effort to continue to improve and build upon the districts financial transparency and reporting, several new pages have been added to the Business Services section of the website. Stakeholders can now find information about: budget calendar, fund accounts overview, school finance definitions, budget projections, fiscal facts, disposal of equipment, enrollment trends and more. The GFOA uses high criteria standards including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
