High School Students Attend Hot Shots at Simpson College
Special education students and their peers from Pal PE class at Waukee High School (WHS), along with special education students from Prairieview School, South Middle School and Waukee Middle School, attended the Heartland AEA Hot Shot Basketball event at Simpson College on January 27.
The event was held in Cowles Athletic Center at Simpson College in Indianola. This is an annual event for secondary students that provides a unique opportunity for students with special needs to enjoy modified winter sports and activities in a less restrictive environment. Among the day’s activities were bean bag bocce, rope jumping and wall volley.
Kelli Palcic, Special Education Instructional Strategist at Waukee, attended the event for the first time this year. “I loved how the events were facilitated by Simpson College students. I appreciated how they had a variety of activities that enabled all of our students to participate,” Palcic said.
Special education students in kindergarten through grade 12 will attend the Special Olympics track meet at Simpson College on May 7.
