Self Defense at South Middle School
On November 19 and 20, students at South Middle School participated in Self- Defense activities in physical education class. Waukee Police Officers Murra and Pettit lead the instruction.
The two officers talked about awareness of your surroundings and set up three stations to help teach self-defense. Those stations included being on the ground with a standing attacker, punching bags and breaking grips and holds. The punching bag was a favorite of the students as they got to practice hitting or kicking the bag. The ground defense station taught students to keep an attacker away when the student is on the ground. The grip/hold station was to help escape an attacker that grabs a student.
