Bond Referendum Special Election: February 6
Waukee Community School District continues to be the fastest growing school district in Iowa, gaining an average of 500 new students each year for the last five years. A second high school is needed to accommodate the district’s rapid enrollment growth.
A Bond Referendum Special Election will be held on February 6, 2018. To learn more and stay informed, you can access the following link and website:
Important Information Regarding Valentine’s Day Cards
With Valentine’s Day approaching in the near future, I want to bring your attention to some important information regarding Valentine’s Day cards. As noted on page 16 of the Waukee Student Handbook, no food or candy items will be allowed to be distributed with cards or at the Valentine’s Party. Students are welcome to bring cards and non-food items (such as pencils, stickers, etc.) if they choose.
The students will still have access to plenty of food and treats at the actual Valentine Party itself (Wednesday, February 14 2:30 pm – 3:15 pm). However, it is simply not possible for us to examine the ingredient labels of the candy that would be attached to each Valentine’s card. Please know that student safety is our first priority.
Classroom Treats: Waukee Nutrition Department
Parents — Do you need a treat for your child’s classroom? The Waukee Nutrition Department can prepare cookies, cupcakes, fresh fruit, and more from our “Peanut/Tree Nut Aware” kitchens and deliver directly to the classroom!
Iowa Assessments: February 6, 7, & 8
Students at Woodland Hills Elementary in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th will be taking the Iowa Assessments on February 6, 7, and 8. As is the case with any school day, students will achieve at their highest levels of performance if they are healthy, well rested, well fed, and encouraged to do their best. It is also very important that students arrive on time for school. If possible, we ask parents to refrain from scheduling routine dental and medical appointments during this time. Your support in getting your child to school on time is always greatly appreciated.

Bundle Up For Recess
Students go outside for recess everyday unless the wind chill is 0 degrees or below. Students are not allowed to stay indoors for recess without a medical excuse. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Hats and gloves are especially important during the winter months. Boots and snow pants are needed when there is snow on the ground. On snowy days, students are required to stay on the blacktop unless they are wearing boots and snow pants. Please remember to label all of your child’s winter clothing.
