Waukee Community School District science students will experience, explore, collaborate, analyze the world and apply their learning. Our students will think critically to understand and solve complex problems. Waukee scientists will use inquiry and creative processes to learn about science and phenomena in the world around them.
Standards, Benchmarks, Objectives (SBO)
The WCSD K-5 Science Standards were board approved in May 2015. The WCSD 6-12 Science Standards were revised and approved by the WCSD School Board in August of 2022. The Next Generation Science Standards (Iowa Core Science Standards) were adopted by the State of Iowa in 2014-2015. Our science curriculum review team reviewed student achievement data and our previous implementation to recommend some changes in where we place some standards in our sequence. At the 6-8 level, we chose to utilize curriculum support from Amplify Science, a highly rated science curriculum that presents opportunities for students to do inquiry and hands-on exploration of science. At the high school level, we went course by course to determine the resources or equipment needed to best meet the needs of the students and their ability to approach the standards for the course. Additionally, we updated all AP Course materials to reflect recent changes made by the College Board.
